1. Many casualties in New Jersey train crash:-
Atleast three people were killed and more than a 100 were injured after a commuter train crashed into a railway station in the US state of New Jersey. Reports say that some people are still trapped in the wrecked carriages. The accident happened at the station of Hoboken, during Thursday morning’s rush-hour commute. Search and rescue operations were still on at the time of writing this report.
2. India says that it has conducted “surgical strikes” across the Line of Control with Pakistan:-
Two Pakistani soldiers and 40 suspected terrorists were killed in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), when the Indian army conducted cross border strikes, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. The Indian army said it had conducted “surgical attacks” across the de-facto border between the two countries to foil a “terrorist attack,” according to India’s Director General of Military Operations. But Pakistan insists that no incursion had taken place into the territory it controls, saying there had only been an exchange of fire. It promised a “forceful response” if there was a repeat of the operation.
3. US Congress overrides President Obama’s veto of 9/11-Saudi lawsuit bill:-
The US Congress overwhelmingly over-rode President Obama’s veto on the bill which allows 9/11 victims’ families to sue foreign governments for their involvement in the 9/11 attacks. The Saudi Arabian government has threatened to send billions worth of US assets, if it is sued in any case. President Obama had vetoed the bill saying that the hit to America’s economic, political and diplomatic ties would be irreperable.
